England week 7 June 21 to June 27

Well this week starts off with Fathers Day.

Sunday was a drive back from Leeds for a family dinner out at the Fox House Pub.  Was a very nice pub.  Very old traditional.  There was alot of seating for diners as well as a little area at the bar to have a pint or two.

The meal was very good and we had a good visit with the fam.   We drove through the countryside and I took a few pix.  The rest of the day was unpack and get ready for another busy week.

Monday was a little different start to the week as I hope the train to Wakefield.  I just decided that it would a be a good place to start my “hop on the train and check out  this place”.  Wakefield is a nice town with old buildings in with new.  Not too much crazy traffic and has a free hop-on hop-off bus which I used when the rain started.  I spent a couple hours wandering around the town before it was time to head back to Sheffield.  I did manage to catch the right train …lol

Tuesday was the busy day -heading to Manchester to check out the Coronation Street tour at the studio.  This was an early start with to catch the train from Chapeltown to Sheffield station then to wait for the Manchester train.  I did give myself plenty of time to make my connections and enjoy the train rides.  Once I go to Manchester it was finding the free hop on/ off bus stop to get to the ITV studio for the tour.  I did manage to get on the bus where a few other people were heading for the tour.. I just followed them.. Yah they did think I was stalking them but once I introduced myself and explained that I was going to the same place they were.. all was good.. We had a good chat before they had to take their tour.. I was early so I got to have a little beverage in the cafe.   The tour was very good and was really neat to see the sets and see how small the areas actually are.  Once the tour reached the Street .. we got to take all the pix we wanted.. The studio had not had any tapings of Coronation Street for almost a year.  I did have time after my wander around The Street to check out the MOSI.  It is a museum of Science and Industry.   A real cool place to check out.. My day ended at 8p.  Andy had offered to pick me up at the train station in Chapeltown but I was already on the bus back to the house… Was a long day but worth it.

Wednesday was a slow day as I think I was in overload from the day before.  I did used the day to transplant some tomato plants that Andy’s friend Sarah had given us.  I was very surprised how fast the plants had grown.. I do hope we get a good crop of tomatoes.

Thursday was Bike Club…. I was still not feeling right so I did do participate with the ride with Denise and Victoria (the gals who are learing and refreshing their biking skills).  It  was good to ride  around the gym and not have to worry about traffic and it was very cool there.  I got back to the house and go ready to pack my suitcase for my 2 week stay in London.  I was not sure what the weather was going to be like so I took a little of everything.  I was very much looking foreward to the concert on Friday.  Andy got in, we had tea and got on the road.  We made it into London around 10p. London, eastside, where his house is and traffic was still very happening.  It was time to unpack, have a tea and crash.

Friday – The Who concert day….

The house was very warm so I knew it was going to be a hot day.. was going to be a 25C .. yikes considering the last couple weeks in Sheffield the weather was 15C to 18C..   Before we headed to the concert we took a run to Tesco to get me groceries for the week and if I needed fresh fruit or veggies I could take a run to the market or Tesco during the week.    We headed off for Hyde Park around 1p, took the 381 to Bermondsey Stn.  On our way the bus hit  a car as the bus was trying to get around the slow mover.. well that ment for us .. get off and walk to the station.. which we did.    The tube ride took us to Hyde corner where we walked to Hyde Park.  We were both surprised what we got for the price of our ticket.. Terrace Garden area.. I was spoiled as I got a wristband and concert Tshirt to a special area where there were wicker couches and chairs to sit.  Private bathrooms and a separate area from the rest of the crowd.. I was spoiled… Thanks Mr Mac. xx   We found a shaddy spot in front of some big screens side stage where we stayed for the whole time.  It was very surreal to see so many people at this concert.  There were modesters to see The Who … It was a very special occasion for music.    Andy and I made a few new friends along the way.  It was a great day.  We did leave before the masses and was home in about an hour, in time to have a snack, tea and bed.

We saw at this concert : Gaz Commbs, Kaiser Chiefs, Paul Weller and The Who.

Saturday was the start of 2 weeks of being without Andy in London.  His friends Sarah, Ian and Suzie are around if I fancy some company, a wander around to a pub for a pint or if I get lost… I am looking forward to wander the streets of London and checking out all.

I did end up meeting Sarah for a visit and a few ciders ( yes Aline I am a fan..lol) at The Angel by the Thames. Was a great night.  Caught the C10 bus with Sarah and wandered home.

Hope you have enjoyed my experiences this week.. more to come..

England week 6 June 14 to June 20

This week is the start of weeks getting busy.

I tried a new a recipe with egg, bacon and bread bake on Sunday.  It was very tasty… The rest of the day was a quiet one.  Decided to do a little trek with Andy’s sister which turned out to be a 3 hours venture.  The walk had different terrain and a number of hills and scenery.

Monday was a chill day and a certain someone had a sick day so we spent it going to the pictures and saw the movie”Spy” very funny movie.  A few were laughing at me I was laughing so hard.. but that is the usual.  Love to laugh…

Tuesday was Happy Anniversary for Andy’s Mom-Margaret and S.Dad Pete – as Pete had to work his sister and I took his Mom to the Wentworth Garden centre for lunch.  We also wandered through a few antique shops.  I bought a new pendant and a little pitcher( was a neat piece).  We bought this little something for their Anniversary.

Wednesday was a little Asda shop day in Chapeltown.  It was a little slow of a day… the garden was watered in the evening.  The flowers are starting to show blossoms.  Very satisfying to see this.

Thursday was action day.  I went to my bike group in the morning but it turned out that there was a breakdown in communication with the trainer and the office… I did an hour riding the bike in the guy with another gal  as she is learning to ride a bike to ride with her son.  After that I went for a 1 hr bike ride on the trails with the instructor.  Was a good workout.  I did head back to the house and had a rest, got tea ready and then went to an aerobics class with Debs.  That was good class.  So to work out of the lactacid Debs and I went for an hour walk… very beautiful scenery….

Friday was a day for gardening… trimming hedges, weeding, watering flowers and cut grass.  Had a brief chat with the neighbour and discussed flowers and his new wall building project.  There was also a little packing for the trip to Leeds for the 80’s concert.  Looking forward to that..  A grocery shop was also done so the frig was ready for next weeks meals.

Saturday — concert day.  It was a slow morning getting ready to head to Leeds for the big 80s Concert… It started raining before we left and kept lightly raining until we got to Leeds.  With a quick walk from the hotel to the train station, where the buses left from, to the venue- Temple Newsum.. The venue was very nice.  The set up was similar to Gallagher Hill – main stage Folkfest.   When we go to the site The Beat was wrapping up.  The other bands that we saw were Heaven 17, Betty Boop, Sonia, GO West, Rick Astley and Tom Bailey.  Rick Astley did a great job.  really enjoyed his set… The line after the concert for the taxies were very long but eventally got a ride back into town for a good night sleep.

Was very well worth the trip to Leeds.. will have to make a trip back to check out Temple Newsum as this is a Hall that used to be a working home way back when.

England week 5 June 7 to June 13

This week was a half and half week.. gardening and a little touring around.

The gardens at the London house were done… looking pretty good I’d say.

The drive back to Sheffield after a wonderful weekend in London was a 3 hours journey but seemed to go quite quickly.

A new week for some transplanting of a couple climbing plants. One in the front garden and the other two in the back.  Fingers crossed they will do well.  The weather has gotten a little warmer but hoping for some rays this week.

A trip to Barnsley market on the train was made on Tuesday.

There were a lot of vendors – a little something for everyone.  I managed to get a few things and had some lunch and headed back to Sheffield.  There is an Asda grocery store next to the station so I could run in and grab a few things for tea.

Wednesday and Thursday during the day was spent with a little walking around Chapeltown – some hills and more hills.. lol  I am slowly starting to get to know the area.  There were visits to the B&Q to get some gardening material and a a couple handing baskets.. they look pretty good- if I don’t say …

As well as trip on Thursday late morning to JTF – cross between Costco and Walmart with Andy’s parents.  A nice fish and chip dish was had after for lunch. Yum…

And to be a little adventurous I found a cycle class to take.. yes it is one the road and down trails.. was fun and free.  Was a little scared at first as I was to drive on the road but with a little instruction and pedalling I managed until we got on the trail.  Since I was the only one there at 930 am it was like a private lesson.. I had never had private lessons before so this was treat.  The pedal was for 45 mins and I did get my sweat one..lol  Was worth it though.  I think I will try it again next week.

Friday was a nice day as the weather had gotten nicer during the week and the showers were sure to follow so I tried do to as much maintenance in the garden as I could before the rains came.  The evening was spent having a few pints at the Pack Horse, The Queens Head and the Working Mens’ Club where I played around of bingo.. even got my own dabber.. lol

The Saturday was a rainy one so we cleaned house, washed clothes, visit with the fam and headed to the shops for a quiet but busy day…

a few pix from the garden .. not too many pix this week.. having a little technical difficulty uploaded.. Please check back in a couple days.. will add in the headed if new pix have been uploaded..

Hope everyone is well  .. Take Care .. Hugs with Love..

England week 4 May 31 to Jun 6

This, my week 4 in the UK brought a slower week as I spent most of it gardening and keeping warm as the winds were still on the cooler side.

To start the Sunday off  I had a trip to the Chatsworth garden center for lunch with Andy’s Mum, sister and S.Dad.   Was very nice spending time with them and enjoying good food.  As the garden centres, here are like Holes Green House in St. Albert so there is a lot of see and buy.   I am always looking for something different for the back garden. I finally planted my flowers which I purchased the week before.  Marigolds and amoelia planned in the front with Petunias and the rest of the marigolds in the back.

To my dismay by the end of the week the slugs had  eaten the leaves of the marigolds.  Now I understand the power of slug pellets  arggg.. My feet received a well deserved pedicure.  The session was not done in the usual chair and hacking of dead skin with a blade but was sat in a chair to put my feet in a wooden bowl with rose petals then laid on a bed to sleep (if I choose) and had my dead skin filed off.  Was an interesting way to take away dead skin.  I also found out that if there was any bladed being used on your feet it would be done by a podiatrist… Now with the feet happy I can begin my wander around.

I did do a little wander with Andy’s Mum and sister.  We went to a really nice garden center for lunch and then a had a little a stroll around Cannon Hall with the beautiful gardens.  The history in this hall is so amazing.

I did another trek around the area of Chapeltown (where I am staying).  I found there are a lot of hills but even with the hills it did not take long at all the get to the train station and to quite a few shops.

The next day I headed to Sheffield downtown for a little wander and a visit to the Moors Market.  I stopped at Cathedral Square  which was where I could catch the Tram to Meadowhall Mall or the bus back to the house.

I did some wandering around and I did find the Moor Market.  Not too much for any bargins but there was still another market to check out.

Pictures from downtown Sheffield

There was a visit to Millenium Gallery in the Winter Garden (a covered walk way).  There were a number of different exhibits… paintings, pictures and a metals works exhibit.  All very interesting.

The rest of the week was spent around the garden and chilling a little as we were heading to London to sort the garden and see what is happening around London.

We went to Borough Market and then had a little bevie and bread and butter at this cool French Bistro near Tower Bridge.  Was nice to chill and see the hustle and bustle of the market above.

We managed to get the garden sorted and have time to enjoy a squirrel and magpie fight in the trees.  This was a busy weekend but a productive one.

Headed back to Sheffield to start a new week of gardening and adventure.

It does not seem that I have been here all that long but the calendar tells me otherwise….

Hope everyone is well…. Be well

Big Hugs with Love..x

England week 3 May 24 to May 30

Well here we are at week 3 and I feel like I have not been here that long.   Yah I know… it is a long time for some.

Well started the week off with a Bank Holiday on Monday which was nice to have Andy around for the day.

The week has been windy with rain and has not been all that warm.  Highest temp is around 15C.  But wait for next week… supposed to warm greatly.

The gardening is coming along…

The next task is to get all the hedges trimmed.  Once that is done we start all over again with cutting grass and pulling weeds.  Fun fun…lol

It did rain a couple days in the morning which made  the day cool but by 4p it was nice to do some little things outside before it got dark.  The sunsets about 10pm here.. Makes it nice to longer nights.  The daylight starts at 4am here – did not think it rose that early in Alberta..

I did take a wander around the area and ended up meeting Shirley the Dressmaker, Donna at Thorpes Farm ( had flowers and fresh fruits) and Kevin the Butcher.  Plus I have a chat with the neighbours when they are out in their gardens.. Yes that did not take me long to “say hi” to the neighbourhood. lol

Had some shopping therapy at the shopping center- Meadowhall with Andy’s sister and friend.  Had a blast.  Did a little shopping, then had a coffee, did a little more shopping, then had lunch, did a little more shopping with a little more coffee with the final shop being at the Pound Store( yes the Dollar store) and then off for our tea to Meadow Farms.  The was a nice way to end a great shopping day.

The week ended with a night out with Andy and Pete to The Pack Horse pub and then to a Working Man’s Club.  No not that kind of club… lol.. a traditional blue color working man’s club.  This club was very nice with a cabaret style hall in the back – table and chairs set for two or four people.  Padded bench seats along the walls with tables and a few chairs for a group to gather..

The entertainment on Friday night was a duo called Fireworks.. they were good. Had their own light show and costume changes.. The Friday night ended with a walk home up a sloped hill … I will master that hill… lol or maybe I needed a few more pints..

The next day was a lazy morning with a trip to Barnsley market and a drive around the countryside.

Had a nice Sunday out with Andy’s fam to the Chadsworth Garden Centre for lunch and a look around the center.. Gardening is very big here..

Thus was my fun week here in the UK.

I am hoping the weather warms up a little .. tis chilly but Summer is not here yet so I cant complain..

Take care – Hugs with Love
